Privacy Policy

1. Local-first by default

OpenSkyLab runs entirely on your machine. Star catalogs, device drivers, plate solvers, and your captured data never leave your computer unless you explicitly enable an optional cloud feature (such as the Pro Relay tunnel or HiPS survey downloads).

2. What we collect on this website

The openskylab.com marketing site collects only what is strictly necessary to serve pages:

  • Standard web server logs (IP, user-agent, referrer) retained up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
  • Email addresses you voluntarily submit through the newsletter form, used only to send OpenSkyLab release notes.

No advertising trackers, no cross-site cookies, no analytics fingerprinting.

3. Telemetry in the desktop application

The OpenSkyLab desktop application ships with telemetry disabled. Opt-in telemetry, when enabled, sends only anonymized crash reports and feature usage counts. It never transmits captured images, session data, or equipment serial numbers.

4. Third-party services

When you use optional integrations (astrometry.net plate solver, Open-Meteo weather forecasts, GitHub update checks) those services receive only the minimal data needed to fulfill the request and are governed by their own privacy policies.

5. Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold (newsletter subscription, Pro account email) by contacting us. GDPR and CCPA requests are honored within 30 days.

6. Contact

For privacy questions, open an issue on GitHub or visit the contact page.
